Chlamydosaurus kingie Carnivore Diurnal Status: Least concern
Found in northern Australia and southern New Guinea, this lizard is named for its prominent, brightly colored neck frill that it flares when threatened. It can also rear up and run on its hind legs. They spend much of their time in trees, which provide camouflage and prey mainly in the form of insects. Butterflies, moths and caterpillars are particular favorites. They bask daily in the sun to keep their body temperature a few degrees above their surrounds.
